Travel Through Time and the Stories of America’s Heartland
Experience the world of Wisconsin’s early immigrants at Old World Wisconsin. Step into the daily lives of the people who called this world home as you help with chores and cooking, try your hand at crafts and trades, and play – yes, even the grown-ups! Lend a hand in the blacksmith shop, say hi to the farm animals, look at veggies in the gardens, dye and spin wool, knead bread, collect chicken eggs, try on wooden shoes, ride high-wheel tricycles, and sample tasty beer in the Brewhouse. Did you know that providing enrichment for the animals at Old World Wisconsin is imperative to maintaining a healthy and happy animal?
There are five different kinds of enrichment; food, sensory, manipulative, environmental, and social and the staff at Old World Wisconsin do their best to offer different opportunities each week. Whether it is a treat dispensing ball given to the Mulefoot pigs, perfume sprayed around the Milking Shorthorn pasture, or a hanging ball hay feeder given to the Belgian horses, each opportunity for enrichment gives the animals the ability to use their brains to figure out puzzles and exhibit natural behaviors you would observe in their wild counterparts.
