Spring Workshops

March 14

Discover a new craft as you step back in time at our Apprentice for a Day program!  These one-day classes are a chance for guests to try their hand at a historic skill alongside our professional staff in the beautiful setting of Old World Wisconsin. Topics include blacksmithing, cooking, heirloom seed starting, and apple tree pruning.

Sheep baaaaing

Shear Delight Weekend

May 9-10  | 10 AM – 5 PM 

Join us for sheep shearing, and help us open our site for our 44th season!  Watch as our sheep undergo their yearly shearing and emerge fresh and ready for the summer. Try your hand with the shears, and then see how wool is transformed from sheep to socks!

Heritage Breed Weekend

May 16-17  | 10 AM – 5 PM

Hear the sound, smell the smells, and feel transported as you see horses pull historic plows through the rich Wisconsin soil. Meet the teams and drivers and explore a world of Heritage Livestock as we kick off International Heritage Breeds Week! Learn more about efforts to protect endangered livestock and poultry breeds from extinction as you spend the weekend on our historic farms!

Memorial Day Weekend

May 23-24| 10 AM – 5 PM

All active and retired military personnel receive free admission all weekend long. Help with chores, dig into the garden, explore the village, and meet our heritage animals. Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of our new Story Spots, where you can ask and learn more about your own family’s stories and traditions.

Summer Events

Historic Brewing

June 13, 27; July 11, 25; Aug. 8, 22 | 11 AM – 3 PM

Taste history infused hops! Gather your friends and family and experience what your great-great-grandfather was brewing. See brewers use equipment and techniques from the late 1800s and heirloom hops and barley grown at Old World Wisconsin to bring the taste of 19th-century beer to you.

Father’s Day

June 14  | 10 AM – 5 PM

Dads receive FREE admission! Help with chores and get inspired by architecture, budding gardens, and the fathers who helped immigrant families make Wisconsin home.

Summer Camps

June – August

Set in the beauty of a Wisconsin State Forest, nestled among historic buildings, camps at Old World Wisconsin are adventure-filled, educational, and, of course, FUN! Old World Wisconsin offers camps from June through August with programming for kids entering first grade and older. There’s even a new camp for adults!

Laura Days

July 17-18 & 24-26 | 10 AM – 5 PM

Explore the site through the eyes of Wisconsin’s own Laura Ingalls.  Learn the story or her real life and step into life as she knew it – shopping in the general store, helping with chores, meeting Morgan horses, and exploring life in a one-room cabin.

Independence Day

July 4 | 10 AM – 5 PM

Celebrate the spirit of Independence Day in 19th century Wisconsin.  Make ice cream, play games and enter the famous pie-eating contest! See horse-drawn wagons, hear old fashioned music and participate in an old fashioned parade through the village.

Wisconsin Journey

Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays
Sept. 9 – Oct. 16| 10:30 AM – 1 PM

This interactive, guided experience gives you exclusive access to select buildings, landscapes, and collections at Old World Wisconsin as you travel the path of immigrant families coming to Wisconsin and becoming Americans. Explore choices, hold history in your hands, and make connections to your own family story.

Fall Plowing Weekend

A farm is a busy place! See the power of 19th-century machines pulled by horses, harvest grains and plow fields. Preservation Weekend

Get ready for Winter as we explore what it takes to fill the pantry for a long Wisconsin winter. Home Brewing Weekend

Historic Butchering Weekend

Oct. 3-4 | 10 AM – 5 PM

A farm is a busy place. At our immigrant farms you can see traditional butchering, and the kitchens will be bustling with autumn preparations. Please note, we will be openly processing freshly butchered livestock at our 1860s Norwegian Immigrant Farm. Come experience the harvesting, preserving, cooking, and community that comes with Fall Fun on the Farms!  Everyone can lend a hand, try something new, and sneak a taste while exploring the past like never before.

Apprentice Weekend

Join us as we celebrate the close of another season with hands-on mini-apprenticeships (5-10 minute activities for all ages) across the site. Halloween Legends and Lore

Troves of supernatural tales brought to Wisconsin over the generations come to life as you explore the Crossroads Village after dark at this always spooky, sometimes scary, family-friendly Halloween event.

Winter Events

Old World Christmas

Dec. 5-6| 10 AM – 4 PM
Dec. 12-13 | 10 AM – 4 PM

Stroll through the 1880s Crossroads Village decked in holiday greenery, full of homes and shops bustling with holiday preparations. Treat yourself to a warm cup of wassail, do some holiday shopping, and see the largest Yule Goat in North America. Then, enjoy a horse-drawn ride around the village, but keep a watchful eye out for the Krampus! If you’ve been nice, make sure to stop by Santa’s workshop to say hello and take the perfect family photo.
