APPRENTICE FOR A DAY

Discover a new craft as you step back in time at our Apprentice for a Day program!  These one-day classes are a chance for guests to try their hand at a historic skill alongside our professional staff in the beautiful setting of Old World Wisconsin.

APPRENTICE WORKSHOPS

SAUSAGE MAKING

November 16
12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Join us as we make two traditional 19th century sausages! From grinding and working with natural casings to creating the perfect spice blend, you will get the chance to make sausage from start to finish. Take home approximately 5 lbs of fresh sausage and recipes to work from in your own kitchen.

FERMENTATION

November 9
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Make your own historic sauerkraut while learning the science and history behind fermented cabbage from around the world! Taste a variety of fermented foods and develop a palate to inspire future fermentations. At the end of class you take home a jar of your very own sauerkraut-to-be, ready to eat in just a few days.

BLACKSMITHING 101 – Hooks & Triangles

November 2 & 23
10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Learn the basics of blacksmithing, in small groups, shoulder to shoulder with Old World Wisconsin Smiths. In the warmth of the historic forge, heat and work steel as you create different hooks and a triangle “dinner bell.” A great opportunity to make gifts that come with a once in a lifetime story! No experience needed.

BLACKSMITHING 201 – Herb Chopper

9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Dive deeper into Blacksmithing as you work in small groups shoulder to shoulder with instructor Dan Joyce.  At the warmth of the historic forge you will learn how to heat and work steel, and work on projects to take home as a demonstration of your newfound skill.  A great opportunity to make gifts that come with a once in a lifetime story!  Some experience a plus.

Leatherwork – Belt & Stamped Coasters

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Learn the basics of leather work as you make your very own belt and coasters! You will work with one of our Old World Wisconsin leatherworkers as you cut, stain, and finish your own belt. You will take home your belt, a set of coasters, and leather stamps for future projects!
